Contemporary Oriental and Other Rugs
In the past decade there has been a surge of contemporary designed rugs, possibly because of a greater desire to live and work in a more design led environment.
Our collection of contemporary wool rugs, carpets and kilims are largely hand-woven. The combination of European designers, quality yarns and dyes, and traditional weaving techniques of eastern artisans creates these individual works of art in harmony with today's furnishings.
A rug can be the inspiration for a complete room design or simply that finishing touch.
Here we are showing a small selection of our Contemporary stock. Please phone or call in to find out what we have in stock today.
Nepalese Contemporary Rugs
These rugs and carpets are woven on the 'rooftop of the world', high in the remote mountain regions of Nepal.
The wool used in our selection of Nepalese carpets is the best imaginable for carpet weaving, being highly resilient, tough and flexible. When you walk on it, it feels springy. When you touch it, because it is rich in lanolin, it feels beautifully soft. Its appearance is particularly pleasing, with a soft glow that comes from its high content of lustrous hair. The whole process is completed by hand, from the washing of the wool in icy clear mountain streams, to the final clipping of the carpet, giving the wool its unique texture and appearance.
Pakistan Contemporary Rugs
These modern Pakistan hand-woven rugs and carpets are made with a mixture of wools including Afghan hand spun Ghazni yarn.
These contemporary weavings are among some of the most exciting and innovating designs, using combinations of both subtle tones and striking colours.
Indian Contemporary Rugs
India, home of the most traditional of rugs and carpets.
Indian weavers have adapted to the new contemporary market with some striking effects in design, colour and texture within the rugs produced.
